Red Wine Sangria

Looking for something to cool you off this weekend? If you've never made this delightful punch your in for a real treat, and its super simple to make. There are lots of variations out there but here's a basic recipe that you can put together in no time.

1 Bottle of your favorite red (or white) wine

1 Lemon sliced 1 Orange sliced

3 Tbsp sugar

1 oz brandy

2 Cups ginger ale, lemon lime soda or club soda

Pour wine into a pitcher, toss in the fruit wedges and add sugar and brandy. Chill for 4-6 hours or overnight. Add soda just before serving.

Variations: Try different fruits such as strawberries, peaches, grapefruit, berries, lime. Replace the brandy with other liquors  such as rum, vodka, flavored vodka or tequila if you dare :)

Watermelon Basil Cocktail

Watermelon Cubes

Fresh Basil Leaves

Tonic Water or Lemon Lime Soda

Regular quality vodka (could use cucumber flavored if you’d like)

Crush watermelon & muddle with a few basil leaves to release the basil flavor, strain. Mix 1 part watermelon juice with 1 part vodka in a shaker filled with ice. Pour into a martini or cocktail glass and add a splash of tonic water or soda. Garnish with basil & a cucumber slice if desired. *Tip-prepare watermelon juice ahead of time and refrigerate. Use as much or as little watermelon as you’d like and muddle the basil to taste. A few leaves per cup of watermelon should be sufficient.


Pink Grapefruit Martini

2 oz grapefruit vodka 1 oz pink grapefruit juice 1/2oz orange liquor Combine all indredients in a shaker filled with ice. Shake, shake shake away! Pour into a chilled martini glass rimmed with sugar. Garnish with a slice of grapefruit.


Midori Sour

A favorite concoction of a dear old friend, this delicious green cocktail is a perfect way to celebrate the month of March. I can't think of a better St. Patty day treat.

1 oz Midori (or other melon liquor)

1oz vodka 1.5 oz sour mix

Splash of lemon lime soda if desired

Marachino cherries for garnish

Fill shaker with ice, add liquor, vodka & sour mix and shake shake shake. Fill your glass top of with a splash lemon lime soda (or lime juice) and garnish with a cherry.

Irish Coffee

St Patty's day is quickly approaching and while the weather is still cool this coffee classic will warm you up!

1 1/2 oz. Irish Whiskey Hot Coffee Whipped Cream

Pour whiskey into mug, fill with hot coffee and top with whipped cream. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and a sprinkling of cinnamon if desired.

Ferrari Cocktail

2oz dry vermouth 1 oz amaretto

Combine vermouth and amaretto and pour over ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with a cherry or orange slice if desired.

Tom Collins

1 oz gin 2 oz sour mix club soda

Fill your collins or tall glass with ice, add gin and sour, stir and top of with club soda. Garnish with lime wedge or a cherry.


Black Lady

2oz Grand Marnier 1/2oz Kalua 1tbs brandy

Add all ingredients to shaker filled with ice; shake, shake, shake to your favorite song. Pour into cocktail glass of your choosing. Voile. Enjoy!

Grand Passion

A tropical treat for your Friday night happy hour... 2 oz Gin 1 oz Passion Fruit nectar 2 dashes bitters

Fill shaker with ice, add all ingredients, shake well and strain into cocktail glass  of your choice. Garnish with your choice of fruit; cherry, orange twist, pinapple slice.


Jello {shots} served in citrus peels



For those of you who haven't heard yet, Pantone has announced tangerine as the new "it" color for 2012. To celebrate here's a fun citrus inspired cocktail for your next social gathering.  I served these at a party once some years ago and they were quite the hit. They are definitly a more grown up version of the traditional jello shot served in paper cups at college parties. You can make these with or without alcohol and in any combination you'd like. Experiment with different flavors of jello and for the cup you can use oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruit or tangerines. For todays recipe we're just gonna go with good old oranges ; )

2-3 oranges 1 (3oz) package of Jello (any flavor) 1/2 cup boiling water 1/2 cup of vodka (again, any flavor) 1/2 cup cold water

1.) Cut oranges in half and hollow out all the fruit. Pat the rinds dry with a paper towel. You can just put them on a plate, or you can plop them in muffin tins to keep them from tipping over.

2.) Make jello according to package. It will call for 2 cups of water, but here we are just subsituting part of the water for vodka. Boil 1 cup of water and add jello packet to disolve, and then add 1/2 cup of cold water and 1/2 cup vodka. (*note - you can change the ratio and go with 1 full cup vodka and no cold water but it may not set up quite as firmly)

3.) Poor jello into orange halfs. Put in fridge for a few hours or overnight until set. Just before serving, cut halfs into two or three slices. *for added glamour try sprinkling with edible glitter.
